Jenny Lawson - How to Be OK When Nothing Ok - new book report!

There are a lot of advice books out there. But this book will be my go to from here on out. Is it an advise book? Yes? Is it a choose your own adventure book on feeling better? Yep.

But really, honestly for me it is a warm hug from someone that is sharing the wisdom and tools to get through it whatever it may be.

Welcome to Jenny Lawson's latest book:  How to Be Okay When Nothing Is OK

First a piece of  business- I got an advanced reader copy of the book a few weeks ago from Penguin.  The release date is March 31st.  Do your current and future selves a favor and preorder in the next couple of weeks so you get it right away.  If you choose to do so, I would encourage you to do so from this bookstore (IYKYK)

I personally love a good advice book.  I like an advice book that literally you can open to any chapter and get some great guidance. This book delivers.  All with Jenny Lawson’s nuanced and joyous encouragement.

There are a lot of advice books out there. But this book will be my go to from here on out. Is it an advice book? Yes.  Is it a choose your own adventure book on feeling better? Yep. But really truly what it is, is a warm hug from someone that is sharing the wisdom and tools to get through it whatever it may be.

I have read all of Jenny’s books, I read her blog, I follow her substack, I have printed her drawings (which are marvelous to color later and then I can’t do it because they are so good) and she includes some in this book which is a delightful bonus).  I have bought her books for friends. In fact, we used Furiously Happy for a bookclub (Punk Rock Book Club R.I.P. - I would seriously like to resurrect that btw, maybe later this year).   This book is one that I plan to have on my desk at work and at home to open up and randomly find that inspiration to get through the day or a tough moment or a fun moment. Yes it is really that great.  Sorry to all the other authors that are going to fall to the bookshelf, this one is a desk copy!

The book is built on different sections with passages of advice, quotes and information.  Let me just say “Lets Love People Even When People are Kind of Scary” just may have been my of the sections but it’s hard to quantify that.  I just loved it the most.

This section sums up everything I love about Jenny Lawson. It’s was like a warm hug that I didn’t know that I needed and I am so fucking grateful for.

I don’t want to say much more because seriously everything about reading this book is to find the space in your heart and head to bring it in on your own terms.

An additional note and one of my favorite things is I really enjoyed about her book was her inclusion of her artwork. She is incredibly talented and her messages in the art are so inspiring you can find her substack where she posts more (linking again):  .  It is one my my favorite things.  I mean just go and see for yourself.

Ten gagillion stars from me….
