Ok so I have a really stupid question. Now that it looks like the WGA strike (go get them residuals babies) is going to go on probably for a while, what do we all do about our DVRs? I mean my shows probably will be going into reruns and do I really want to have to micro manage this? I don't think so. My suggestion is going to be in about three weeks when almost all the shows have run off their new programs in the can... switch your recordings to go "only new" then you won't end up with re-runs.
I heard that this was coming down the pipe and haven't watched any of Pushing Daises yet, I have four Journeyman and like 6 episodes of CSI and CSI NY. I am purposefully NOT watching any of the shows you will see in my list over there ------> because honestly I don't want to subjected to reality programing (and shut up... America's Next Top Model doesn't count... I am watching it for photo tips.... just kidding).
There is alot of talk about the whole production schedule getting messed up and if I was a producer (which I was) I would be concerned. Sure in the short term it doesn't seem so scarey but many of these shows are 9 -13 episodes in the can.. with 5 or 6 aired on a 22 episode order. Some are still waiting to hear about the back 9... I mean really this is detrimental. Its not just tv. Its film. Its late night (not that late night is even remotely good anymore outside of Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert... Conan and Dave and Jay are terrible). Bring in the agents someone suggested. I actually have to agree. Have the union, the agent and the studios all sit down. Unlikely but it would probably work. Because if the writers don't get paid.. and while four cents per airing of whatever doesn't seem like a lot, consider this.... a writer gets four cents now on every dvd but not a download from ITunes. CBS for instance offers all the episodes for download and Jerry Stahl whose pervie brilliant mind wrote a very popular episode, he gets NOTHING but the producers (Jerry Katzenberg and William Peterson) probably each get a nickel. So it gets downloaded 1000 times. They get fifty bucks (sure it isn't alot but that adds up) and the guy that wrote it gets bupkes. But if it sells on DVD he gets a percentage of four cents, he gets a percentage of four cents, so say there is 1 episode in a (lets do nice round numbers here...)10 dvd set. He would get 1/10th of four cents. They would have to sell 12,500 sets for him to make the same 50 bucks. This is what they are fighting for... new media. Their rights to the money that is generated from the new media. And they are justified. Sure their strike is totally waging fear in my little entertainment schedule... but I get it.
And the "stars" that are bring pizza for a photoop...? SHUT up. Go home. Either really support your writers or sit at home but don't go looking for a photo op, you are suckie and lame. I am talking to you Eva Longoria.
