Just spent another quality hour with my tech from Belkin in either the UK or India (hard to tell his accent was really good). Nice enough guy but their product leaves a little bit to desire I have to admit. Seriously this shouldn't be this difficult to set up a secure wireless router. I might not be the MOST saavy computer nerd out there in the universe, but I know how to set up a network, did it at Dr. Evil's office more than once, added computers, took some off, set up wireless for him in his house, I mean this isn't... shouldn't be... this frustrating.
So tonite, I get a guy that actually told me what it is. The firmware version on the router I got isn't stable. Duh. So we update it and hopefully I won't have to go through this crazyness every time I want to log onto my internets (which you know I lurve).
Everything is running smoothly right now (knock wood) but it took almost an hour tonite to get there. I know have over 6 hours invested in this damn thing. But I am learning the fine art of patience, asking the tech to "please repeat slowly" and trying to act like I am being a good sport about the whole thing.
The guy today said "I would have smashed the router, you are more patient than I am" to which I responded, "sure you say that but if it keeps crapping out on me, I have to return it and can't bring back a box of router bits to the store".
I am frustrated by the battery situation in this laptop, I am grateful as hell that I have it, but the battery isn't holding a charge so I am playing the discharge/charge game right now. If not I will order a battery and go from there. Seriously I am really grateful, but not being able to use it for more than 10 minutes not plugged in doesn't offer me the luxury of taking it out in the wild like I really would like to.
Talked to one of the networking guys today on a break this afternoon, our IT department is so f'n dumb. All of our databases are internet based and they (meaning the IT department) can't figure out why the bandwith has increased so much. They are starting to lock people's computers down which "hasn't solved the problem" and now they think that our entire staff is listening to streaming audio all day... no dipshits, four of our programs we use to do our f'n jobs are based on the net. Its so dumb. They think because people visit their email that its causing this ginourmous bandwith spike. No... we have these systems that you integrated and don't even know how they operate. It was really funny to hear this discussion. Well California doesn't have this problem... no California probably knows what they are doing. And its holding up like three major things I have going (or want to have going) in my department. Increase your bandwith, make the payment to whomever you are buying it from, we make pleanty of money corporately, its a necessary evil and the cost of success and doing business. No they want to block walmart.com. Ok by me. But it isn't going to make any kind of difference. They won't let us update our "flash" drivers because they are afraid we will use YouTube. Puhleeze. It is so funny because they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces.
I am going to hunker in for some old fashioned entertainment, I am climbing into bed (its super cold in Denver tonite ... perfect...) and finishing that book, so I can start a new one. I am close to finding out how this girl quits her promotions position at the "big time movie studio" or if she doesn't. Good old fashioned chick lit. I bet she meets a guy and gets the big job and lives happily ever after. H will be happy to have it passed on to her.
