My September subscriptions are starting to roll in and I plan on spending the rest of the weekend hibernating flipping through their tonnage of advertising.
I didn't go out to dinner tonite but did go to my parent's neighbor's 50th anniversary party. One of the passed appetizers could have been so amazing and I want to remember all of its potential. It was a thinly sliced peice of flank steak with either a pesto roulade or a raspberry chipotle' sauce on bread. The steak was completely tasteless and the bread was only brushed with a little bit of olive oil. They should have marinated the steak, made croistini and put a little less of the sauce on top, but for all its potential it was tasty. It would have been good with chimmicurri also, but that is really an acquired taste and not good for a testy crowd, so probably why they went with the pesto, which wasn't fresh, it tasted good but like Rotini. They had a nice drink buffet set up and it was nice to have little cups filled with fruit that complimented the "fruit water" (water with sliced citrus), lemonade, and white sangria and probably a peach or nectarine iced tea. It was really nicely displayed and I should have absolutely taken a picture and didn't and I am bummed now. Dangit. The only thing that was missing was ice for the drinks, we had to snag some from the beer bucket. They also did a really neat thing with edible pictures on frosting on shortbread cookies. That really could have been the highlight of the entire party-foodwise. It was a really nice and sweet touch.
I didn't eat much because I knew that if I overdid it on the appetizers I wouldn't be hungry like I am now. It might be 10:00 but I am thinking about doing a little food run, but not sure what I am hungry for. I actually could go and run over to Sunflower and get any supplies I need for a quick dive into cooking, I just have to figure something out.
One of my coworkers is leaving for Cancun on Tuesday on a cruise. Hurricane Dean is going to really cause her some issues. She didn't take out any travel insurance either. Which is pretty silly considering it is hurricane season. I knew someone that was in the Carribian and got hit by a hurricane and had the insurance and it saved their asses. Oh well. She didn't listen to my suggestion a couple of months ago when I said she should do it, but that is what you get. I might not travel a lot but certainly I wouldn't book a cruise to that area of the world in August. Whatever.
I am hungry.
