Took today off from work for the day because in the morning I had to be down at the City and County Building to potentially testify as a witness to a traffic accident. Chung Chung... the stories you are about to see are true, the detectives of the District 3 Police Squad Chung Chung.... Ok first that is a really bad Law & Order impression. Second of all I was really nervous to be there. Third, it snowed like a mofo and wearing a skirt suit with high heels and having to walk three blocks from the surface lot to the courthouse wasn't fun. Fourth, the xray machine totally stopped working with my purse and coat inside it. Of course I wished I could have taken a picture of the whole thing, but my camera was in the machine!
I don't like the people that the guy who ran the light hit. I really don't. They are shleppers of the highest regard and the passenger lady ran after me in the middle of the courthouse to "get my information" after the case concluded, because she is probably going to be suing the guy that hit them because she has a "unstable back injury and closed head injury". I call bullshit, don't run in the middle of the courthouse almost all the way down the hall if you have a injury lady. First of all. Second of all, you totally refused medical attention at the scene of the accident. Third of all maybe if you cleaned out your f'n car you would find my business card in all the piles of crap everywhere. I reluctantly gave her my card. I wish I hadn't.
So I walked very slowly around the building's first floor (for the most part it is a big circle) and went back to the courtroom hoping the defendant guy would still be there without the other people so I could let him know that I know he is a good guy, has a clean driving record, paid out of his pocket for the repairs to the car, and for follow up doctors twice (it was all in the statement I had to look at to describe to the DA what happened... he didn't hide it very well) and that he was paying an additional fee to the victim's compensation fund (that was discussed in open court) and that rest assured I will not in anyway do anything to help these people. It was important that he know I am understanding of all that.
What made me feel this way? Well, that was wearing a suit actually. Not a single other person coming before that judge had enough respect to do that. His friend who was with him wore a suit. This guy's suit was so new that he didn't have time to take the label off the sleeve (or know to). It was sweet and very endearing. He comes all the way from Somalia and knows that there should be respect in a courtroom. He was the only one in that entire courtroom of maybe 35 defendents that went before that judge and hadn't gone to law school who had enough respect for the situation, the proceedure and the judge to wear a suit.
He came all the way from Somalia to be sued by some schleppers? Fuck that. I gave his attorney my card also (and wrote down my cell phone number... the schleppers didn't get that) and let him know he could put anything I said into his records and that I don't like these people...straight out and that woman ran down a long hallway after me. Mr. A from Somalia was very grateful, I told him not be grateful to me, because I am grateful for him being so nice, showing up wearing a suit and being respectful. And then, I wanted to cry.
It has made me very sad. Do these people really think that some 23 year old KID from Somalia is going to have big bags of cash hidden away? They think that this is the big score probably and his insurance company is going to pay big. Wrongo, they don't. Never gunna happen. This guy probably worked 3 jobs to pay for the attorney, suit and everything he already paid out of his own pocket to these folks, its already paid for, they aren't paying twice.
I want them to crawl back into their p.o.s. junked up with papers and books and piles of crap and leave this man alone and told the attorney so. I hope they realize they are assholes and leave him alone. They won't. And they better not call me to be on their side, because I am not.
In other news. I went shopping online today. Yes I did. I need to return a sweater and shirt to Target that I have bought so actually the money I spent on my inexpensive but fabulous junktastick jewelry is already paid for. Like the way I did that? Yeah me too. Creative!
Boat load of pictures today since I had the time to be out and about and not looking at the ponds out side my office for the most part all day. Need to unload the camera. Tommorrow peanuts, tommorrow.
