Bread and bread links and basically bread joy...still

Thank you Megan for the links about The No Knead Bread... for the video
of Jim Lahey baking the bread especially... Glorious. He says his oven is set
for 500 degrees, I am happy with 450 as that is all my pots can withstand.
His bread also came out much more dark (the crust). Be sure to check out the
accompanying article for tidbits and more information. I am glad he wanted his
recipe out in the world. Check out the last minute or so of the video where
he says he wants it out there. I wonder if he had any idea of how huge this
would become. He also did NOT go apeshit with the dusting flour like I did.
It was good to see his lighter hand and technique.
I think tonite after I come home from the movie (I am praying that we don't
get stuck with Apocolypto but instead The Pursuit of Happyness. It could
be anything, I am just hoping for something watchable) I am going to start
a batch of dough. Just because I can and should. And then I will have a nice
loaf for the weekend. Even though I haven't gone through my loaf from last
weekend.
I am also thinking that this might actually be a great holiday present for
neighbors. I would like to mix up some basil butter loafs pressed with a
pretty design or find some delicious jam. I need to go to Sur La Table or
someplace to find loaf bags. I was in the store last night and didn't even
think about it. One of the sales people called everyone "chef". As in... "do
you need any more help with those spatula's chef?". It was really totally
endearing and actually adorable. It makes me that much more happy to
walk back in there and spend my money vs going into Williams Sonoma
I have to be honest. Even though they are completely different now.
I am loving the bread, the recipe and especially the internet fury over it.
Its a pleasure to partake in something so great as making bread and
knowing that someplace somewhere someone else is doing exactly the
same thing. Its kind of a nice thing if you think about it.
