Project Angel Heart

Dining Out for Life

This is really a great program and every year I try and go and eat out at two restaurants, one for lunch (usually Chipotle if you must know) and then dinner with family or friends someplace else. This year the event falls on Pesach so I don't see that happening. Sure I had a peice of wedding cake on Sunday but honestly I can't drek pesach up just because... you know.

I saw the list this year and it is the same places as last year pretty much, but after taking the wrong turn on the way home I drove by Senor Pepe's which is very much a place we used to as a family go all the time when I was a kid over on Poplar Street. I haven't been there in 20 years at least. That is totally where I would have picked to go out for dinner tommorrow night for sure.

So I have to find someplace on my way home where I know that there will be a representative on hand so I can go and drop off a contribution at least. Some restaraunts donate all of their sales, some only portions, but tommorrow night I am definately taking a check someplace. I really would like to give a check to a coworker that I know will be going out and have him give it to the volunteer. Its just too tempting.

And this organization really is too important to not do anything. Project Angel Heart really does amazing things for people who are in such need.

I can't stress it enough, if you are in Denver, even though it is Pesach... find a restaurant near you, go and drop of a check for what the price of a meal is. We are all so undenyably fortunate to have loads of food (even if it is Matzah and Jell-Rings) during this time and there are people who aren't as fortunate.

Give some tzedakah. Why not write a check even if you aren't in Denver. You find my blog via google, jrants, your bookmarks on splitrock.net (I see you!), search for yiddish-isms and land here, some of you even link to my blog and I ask for nothing. I like knowing that people land here, but I want to know that you have it in your heart of hearts to make a difference in another strangers life.

I am asking you for this one thing. Write a five dollar check. I mean that is equivilant to a big burrito from Chipotle, a sandwhich at Panera, fried rice from Red Coral, a slice of pizza from Two Fisted Mario's, but it means so much more than just what it could have been, it is WHAT IS CLEARLY CAN BE. Put a stamp on the envelope. Make this a season of real joy. We as Jews are celebrating freedom from slavery....why not help a person in need from the slavery of hunger and serious nutrition needs? There are plenty of ways to donate. Give it some thought and if you do, know that I will forever hold a special place in my heart just for you. Happy Giving.
